Finishing Techniques

Join Dotty to learn some finishing techniques to make your knitting look amazing! She’ll teach you the skills below, and there will also be a discussion about blocking your knits. You will need to bring 7 stockinette swatches to your first class. Instructions are provided below. 

Please note: A minimum of 3 students is required in order for the class to proceed. 

  • Sewn bind off, 
  • Kitchener stitch, 
  • Mattress stitch, 
  • Three needle bind off, 
  • Weaving in ends

Instructions for stockinette swatches

Cast on 20 stitches

Row 1: knit all stitches

Row 2: purl all stitches

Repeat Rows 1 & 2 9 more times (total 20 rows)

Cut yarn leaving a 1m tail

Place each swatch on a stitch holder or scrap yarn, do not bind off. 

Stuff You Need

  • 1 extra 5mm (US 8) or 4.5mm (US 7) needle (straight/dpn/circ)
  • 5mm (US 8) needles (pair of straights/dpns or one circ)
  • 7 stockinette swatches needed for the first class
  • Notebook & pen or pencil
  • Scissors
  • Smooth light coloured worsted weight yarn
  • Yarn Needle

Advanced Beginner Knitting

Basic skills plus repetitive stitch patterns, simple colour changes, and simple shaping and finishing.
