As many of you know, we LOVE our Shetland wool here at The Loop. Our re-stock of Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight is here, and so is the 2019 hat pattern for Shetland Wool Week! Every year there is a patron, and this year’s is Oliver Henry. Oliver has lived in Shetland for his whole life, and spent 52 years working with Shetland wool. He was one of the original founders of Shetland Wool Week, and it’s fitting that he is the patron for its 10th anniversary. He’s known as “The Man of Wool” for good reason! Part of his job as patron, is to design the Wool Week hat. Oliver drew sketches inspired by his life in Shetland, his J&S colleague, Sandra Manson translated his drawings into a pattern, and Ella Gordon charted it. It’s called the “Roadside Beanie” and you can download it for free here as well as learning more about Oliver’s inspiration for his beautiful hat. As you can see, Annie has already made one! We have the colours called for in the Jamieson & Smith pattern, or we’ll be happy to help you invent your own colour scheme. Shetland Wool Week wants to see your beanies too, post them on your social media and tag them with #roadsidebeanie , #shetlandwoolweek2019 and #happybirthdaysww so they can check them out.
